Custom Bed Frame

My son wanted a custom steel bed frame. This is what I came up with. Drew some gussets and feet up on AutoCAD and had them laser cut. I just hand sanded the mill scale to different shades to give it some texture, and then shot a few coats of acrylic clear coat on it. Still needs a little wet sanding but he really likes it.

I used 2x2 16g tubing, and had the gussets feet and tabs cut out of 1/4" plate. It's definitely a sturdy bed.

Very contemporary and very nicely done!
He'll never need another bed. It'll last a lifetime and then some! :)

I used to joke that my former boss could tear up an anvil with a nail file but this looks like it would even hold up to his abuse. Great work!

Yeah but I love the projects that guys post, gives me lots of ideas. Hopefully I can get away from repairs and into the creative end of welding.

To quote a line from the movie, "The Quiet Man,"

"A man'd have to be a sprinter to catch his wife in a bed like that..."

I realize this isn't a "marriage bed", but it could be...

Heck, that bed is awesome but I would KILL to have a welding table like that! I would kill to have the room for a welding table like that!

You're definitely correct on more room means more tools. I do a lot of custom sheet metal work and have really had my eye on this power hammer.

That's one of them, but it's too far above my price range. I would love to demo one though. I actually found an old Yoder style hammer. Guy says it works great and he has a bunch of dies to go with. I need to take a road trip to check it out.
