Here's a job I did several months ago.
Those 3 poles there are 2 3/8" and 2 7/8" pipe.
Got to make some of these "step-overs" (I suppose).
Need to make 8 of them, each different lengths.
Pics will explain.
Here's my blueprints.
Ok,
So your wondering what these thingy's are for.
A friend of mine is setting up (4) 48' greenhouses.
There is 2 7/8" pipe poles set in two bags of concrete, all laid out, where hoops will go into.
Only thing is the idiots that dug the holes and set them in the ground, did not put them in a straight line.
Mind you, the ground is frozen solid, plus all the poles are set in concrete.
So now we have to make these step overs, as well as weld other pipes on, to make all the pipe recievers in a straight line.
Pics will explain.
So, those are the ones we used the custom stepovers on.
8 of them.
There is a lot more poles out of line.
Many of them only a few inches, so you couldn't really build those step-overs, being there isn't much room.
So we'll just get other lengths of pipe, Between 6 and 8 inches long, and weld them onto the side of the poles that are driven into the ground.
Here we go.
This picture right here pretty much explains it all.....^^^^^
So there you go.
There was a few dozen we had to weld like that.
All 6010 1/8"....
Now for some gravel...
To hide all the work we did.
So now, all we are doing is picking up these poles, and dropping them into the pipes, and sticking our bolt in.
The holes are all pre-drilled, so all we do, is drop them into the right height, and stick the bolt in.
What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

And here is one of the green houses all leveled up, with the bolts all in.
Pretty uniform.
Not bad for a couple of dumb farm boys who can't read a tape measure....
I left before the other guys got the 3 other green houses all leveled up, and I didn't get any pics, soooooo you'll just have to trust me that the other 3 look just as good as this one.....
Fun....
Good night everyone.

PS,
That's not me in the last pic.

NIce work and REALLY NICE pictorial! John, do you prefer stick over other processes? I know stick is best for the field but what about in the shop?

Nice fix! How could anyone have possibly gotten that many posts that far off? There must have been alcohol involved, at the least! If they were on speed, I'd say, "That's methed up!"
Good thinking to add that post-script and pre-empt the age jokes that last picture invited...

As too the choice of process, I guess it comes down to which you prefer.
I was raised on 7018, used it for pretty much everything.
Nowadays mig and duelshield are way better for in the shop.
The obvious choice for this job was 6010, #1 cause we're out here on a cold windy day, and #2 cause we're welding 1/8" wall galvanized pipe, downhill.

Ridiculous....
But hey, I was making $40 a hour, so I can't complain. Easy money.
