The directions just say to use a high enough setting for reliable arc starting - too high and it can cause interference with electronics.

My Miller arc starter HF-15-1 has so much power it will throw an arc a foot long when cranked all the way up.

My Airco has to be cranked all the way up for reliable HF arc starting - but it is 50 years old :D

I could build one hell of a Jacob's Ladder with a source like that! I currently (no pun intended) have a little one built from a 7.5kV neon transformer.
