Well maybe not as impressive as Zank or TamJeff but this is the only alum project I have done in the past few weeks. A good friend needed a cover for the batteries on his semi and brought me a 3/16" used diamond plate sheet to make this. I provide the .100 sheet and 6 cut of wheels and this is what I came up with.

Got a question about your back purge set up if you wouldn't mind. I am planning to do some frames not bikes but am looking for ideas for sealing and doing the back purge. Does you jig just use the taper of the mounts that hold it to seal the tubing up or do you have some type of seal on them. Also where your argon comes in for the back purge do you have a diffuser inside or just vent it straight into tubing.
Very nice bikes to bad my body can no longer handle riding I think I would have to have you build me one. I used to ride a Gary klein and a Gary Fisher aluminum frame mountain bikes. I still have them will never get rid of them just limited on my riding. Ride like a 80 year old now
I'm sorry I missed this. You are correct. The cones that hold the tubes in the jig do a good job sealing the tube ends for tacking. I tack in the jig and then weld on the bench. My heatsinks have caps to seal the ends of the tubes. Argon is introduced through the heatsink. I only backpurge steel and titanium. Hope that helps.
I don't get to weld every day and when I do it aint pretty. Algae, paint, corrosion, oil, foam, old glue, and on this one there was Epoxy, body filler added in, then bed liner to hide the crappy repair, but I won!!
Challanging postions to say the least!
don't think my knees/old joints could get in there to even hold the torch
In those positions if the weld holds it is agood weld

This is a 1/16" 2% lanthanated electrode after I finished the frame above. I am going to start a thread soon about what I've found in experimenting with independently adjustable EN and EP. It's been pretty amazing.
Experimenting with high speed pulse (to keep heat input down) and a #14 toxic cup on titanium. Very pleased with how clean the titanium stayed. These are as welded. No brushing. Random welding pics by Zanconato Custom Cycles, on Flickr
Dear Mike, you do well congrats , Can you say few things more about EN and EP please .I always try and I always fail to produce nerrow clean seams or beats . What is your gas flow ? .

Hi Esenti,
Yes, I will post in a new thread later this week. I just want to get my thoughts down first and get some good pictures. What machine are you running?
Mike
Dear Mike, I have fronius magic wave 2200 2 years now .Its a good machine. ( i was close to buy a miller but since in Greece
it is not easy to find i choose Fronius) .
My welding has not impressed anybody yet. Only lately i have started to take some score out of it . I usually do repairs where you need a very powerfull machine to manage an aged aluminum corroded and fatigued . I like good penetration to boil all in -purities out and then appearance.Usually the pieces i weld are so dirty that is very hard to clean properly.
These are older welding i do better now . I do better in appearance when i make stops
with the tig torch switch . You do impressively better well done .
Thank you , I think there is some room with my adjustments i enclose the POS and NEG off my machine , i use square wave
POS and NEG waveform Is it ok? . The ark seems a bit not focus and lacks of accuracy .
