I was wondering if anyone out there has done any mixed metal laser welding?
I have welded most common tool steels with similar filler metals. I have welded most tool steels with 420ss filler.
I would like to increase the surface hardness of a standard H13 ejector pin in a certain area. I would think M2 would give me a good hard surface if compatible. I would use .010" filler and shoot for at least .008" to .010" finished thickness.
Maybe A2.
I will try both, I was just curious what the welding world has to say.

There's some tool steel experience here that may be able to help with your compatibility question. I believe there's some laser welding experience here, as well, though perhaps not both in the same person.
Are you on Instagram? If so, look for @ztfab. He's done enough work with tool steels and the heat treatment process to (probably) tell you who to ask. He's doing welding cart kits presently (they are things of beauty), so you can also reach him through his website:
