I have an old smiths ac welder I just got that looks like r2 D2 there is a cable that comes out the bottom in that middle can anyone tell me what this is for. Thanks for your time

saw some other pictures of that machine on other sites. perhaps you could search and find the manual for that old timer. not sure about the wire you're asking about. Is there a lead and ground plus the other wire or do you suppose that wire is the common ground? OR is that the power lead?
