I have a project where I need to join steel and copper sheet with a lap weld. Advice so far is to use silicon bronze rod and only heat to fill the gap with rod. Any advice or recommendations?

I would do it that way. Sheet steel used to be only joined with brazing rod in body work why not to brass or copper? Now it is done with a mig welder.
