When using a 1/16" tungsten over a 3/32" is it preferable to adjust the AC balance to put more heat on the work piece so as not to burn up the tungsten ???

correct, but you need to turn down the amps, maximum at 150 amps, balance at 68%. got it from miller handbook.

Agreed.

I'll take the arc balance to 80% if the aluminum is really clean and I can wire-brush short sections right before I weld them.
