Hello, this is my first technical question in this forum.
I was reading the Miller´s "TIG Handbook", and something interesting has appeared, the "Welding
Fluxes for GTAW" article. I need to improve penetration on my weld profile.
I have looked for some developer or distributor to buy it, but I haven´t found any TIG fluxes.
Has someone heard about one commercial TIG flux that improve weld penetration?
Thanks.

Well it was news to me they existed - I never heard of it improving penetration - only use I've seen is on the back of a stainless weld where a purge gas is impractical - " the other tig guy" recently did a video using it with what looked like good results - it was called " Solar Flux type B "
Don't know if it's available where you are - but it's on Ebay

Flux helps penetration the same way back-purge helps penetration. Keeping oxygen off the backside.
Pointless in most mild steel welds. Usefull for stainless welds where pack-purge is impractical. I don't use flux. If a weld requires backside protection (all stainless, and many 40xx series steels), I'll purge it. The one exception, and I haven't done it in years, is 400-series stainless for exhaust pipe, though I suppose flux might buy you an extra horsepower or two by eliminating "sugar" inside the pipe.

There is flux for tig that will improve penetration and it's not same stuff that is used on root shield. I have not ever used it, but read about it too.
Here's one article about it

Hey,
There is also a flux cored tig rod, and as gimmicky as it sounds, is apparently a high end item used on piping systems where no other option is available. Such as a repair or the last weld on a sealed system. Kobe TDX is one I think. Behaves like a ss stick weld i hear.
Mick.
