Stick Welding Tips, Certification tests, machines, projects
had some trouble on a recent test. the 6011 rod started great but about halfway through the rod wanted to stick and burnt in an a rather ockwards way not allowing for a full penetration weld. Istarted at a typical 6010 amperage setting, was this wrong giving that the heat and heat affected zone are critical....this is a single/stringerbead on 3/8 mat, single 30 degree signlev open root, 1/16 land and 3/16 opening.

What kind of 6011 were you using? There are 6011 that are for AC only and there are some that are for AC and DC. Most 6011 rod can run on DC but the preferred polarity is AC. Why were you testing with 6011?

^^ What Jpence said ? Why were you testing with a 6011. Now a good friend of mine had to test using 1/8 6011 on truck containers. Yeah that was tricky cuz the 6010 and 6011 like to EAT metal. Thin container metal is not there intention but thats what this company wanted.
6011 is primarily an AC rod.

I tried DCEN at 110 amp on the 6011 rod, its ran smoother this time no pockets , im barley starting out, im going to go to school after new years to learn more, but heres a link to a video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTypUHpnboc and ive included a picture of the arc weld and a fluxcore*** weld, the fluxcore .030 @140amps 1/4" steel t joint..and the stick weld 1/8" 6011 hobart DCEN @110amps flat plate but weld 1/4"
