Hello,

I will be building an aluminum boat soon and I have some questions. Soon I will buy a Miller 252 with spoolmate 30a gun. My boat is 5052 3/16 bottom and 1/8 sides. I have been reading a book called Boatbuilding with aluminum and have some question on the info in the book. The book says to adjust the amperage, and then once the display reads the correct amps while welding , set the voltage. Since the 252 only has 2 dials, I can adjust the volts only, how do I adjust the amps, or is this the same dial? We have a miller 252 at work and I have never been comfortable setting volts, however I like the welder. I know from welding with my syncowave 200 that a good starting point is 1 amp for every thousands of thickness. My syncowave display reads amps so I have never had to deal with voltage. Can anyone explain this for me, and dumb it up real good so I can understand it. Thanks :?:

Welcome to the Forum.

There is a calculator at http://www.millerwelds.com/resources/ca ... ulator.php that will get you started.

With GMAW(MIG) the amperage is a result of the wire feed speed.

The setting at the above site should get you started.

Miller also has an Android App for the same thing.

Have a good day.
