A few weeks ago I picked up a 1996 Syncrowave 250. This weekend I spent some time stick welding with it and getting used to it. I also have a Hobart Stickmate AC/DC that I have been using for a couple of years. Is it just me or does the Syncrowave blow away the Stickmate? Seems a lot easier to lay down nice looking beads with the Syncrowave, and it was almost impossible to get a rod to stick. I was welding with 6011s and Excalibur 7018s. I had the dig turned up to 70. ran both rods this way and loved it.

I don't stick weld all that much, but the last time I had to stick weld quite a bit, it was with a Syncrowave 350 and it welded 7018 like a dream. It's in a shop at one of our other plants and the welder that uses that machine already had it set up so I didn't notice what the dig was set to. Fine welders no doubt.

I'm damn sure a high quality Tig machine would have finer internal workings that a run of the mill stick welder. Kind of like using a Ferrari to haul vegetables to market and then complaining that your 1987 blazer isn't as fast....
