Can anyone offer me insights into what a 6G aluminum pipe test is going to be like? I think the wall thickness will be about 1/4". Now, as I understand it (and I understand very little), that will qualify me up to wall thickness of T X 2, or 1/2". Is this correct?
Also, if my tube OD is 3" (or about), then I should be qualified on any tube over 2 7/8"? Is this correct?

Open root? (Much sweeter test with a backing ring!)
What code? ASME IX, I'm guessing?
I "THINK" you are correct about what the test will qualify you for. I can share a fairly recent copy of ASME IX, via your private e-mail, if you like, but I don't recall what it says about the aluminum tests.

Y'know, in AUS, the major provider of welding certification doesn't provide any certs for metals other than steel. I think they missed the boat.
