So this ac balance is always an issue , especially to the new ones . So I thought to post this .I have fronius magic wave 2200
in which i try to be good at it . This fronuius is like a wild horse I try to master .This time is my third year and Im close to learn it .
In this machine the cleaning action is -5 to +5 . I assume that i should be using it around -3 something i have not done it
yet . I usually weld old aged aluminum bits who needs the most possible cleaning action so i use +5 when things are a bit better i use +2 yesterday i used 0 . I intend to go less towards EN i will it tried as combination with the proper gas flow .
I use for moment 12 cfh .So the message is this . If you weld for 15 minutes time and the tungsten in not ball up
over the diameter of the tungsten you use you are ok within the proper settings . ( in this case you must stop and regrind the tip of tungsten. )Maybe is not much but for some out there it might be useful ...

You are on the right path in learning
Dirty alum more + , more cleaning, bigger balling on tungsten.
Clean, well prepared alum use more - on AC balance
Thick pieces usually weld easier with clean preparation and and lots of neg(-) bal
