Hi All,
A newbie here. I'm trying to learn how to weld solid high speed bandsaw blades, has anyone
figured a good method for doing this?
I have a Lincoln Ivertec 205T, an inverter based pulser tig/stick machine.
I'm using the smallest 2% thoriated trode I have, running 60A background, 30A foreground, and
2.5 pulses/sec. The foreground is running at 30%.
I am using a fixture with a copper backing plate.
I found it very easy to burn a hole or a divot in the back of the blade.
I'm running 20CFM Argon.
I'm thinking of adding a backing plate to the back of the blade to try to stop the
divot/hole problem.
I would love to hear someone who has a good answer to welding these blades.
Note these are not Bi-metal blades, but solid high speed steel.
Best Regards,
Paul Hoffman

I have a fixture that I built from aluminum with De-Sta-Co clamps on it to hold the blade when I weld it. I strike an arc on the blade and put the wire under the arc. I melt a ball off of the wire and let it melt into the blade. It's sort of like lay wire.

No direct info on TIG welding (this is resistance-welding), but perhaps it gives some background including hardening and (re-)annealing the weld and the likes for the blades here:

I like this guy, he is funny and has many good videos if you're interested in machining and print readingArno wrote:No direct info on TIG welding (this is resistance-welding), but perhaps it gives some background including hardening and (re-)annealing the weld and the likes for the blades here:
